The project

For Prince Philip Campus in Ghent, De Klerck Engineering was responsible for the complete design and construction supervision of the HVAC renovation. The campus comprises five buildings housing offices, meeting rooms, training facilities, archives, and a service center, along with a cafeteria and kitchen. The existing systems had reached the end of their service life, prompting the City of Ghent and the Ghent Public Social Welfare Center (OCMW) to opt for a comprehensive technical renovation with support from the Flemish Energy Agency.

Our assignment included the feasibility study, scope definition, final design, preparation of the specifications, and construction supervision. The central boiler room was upgraded with high-efficiency condensing gas boilers in a cascade configuration, a new main manifold, and variable flow distribution. The cooling system for Block A and the decentralized substations in Blocks C and D, as well as the archive building, were also upgraded.

In addition, the local control systems were upgraded with room sensors, zone controllers, and motorized valves, while the building management system was fully updated in accordance with the standards of the City of Ghent. The work was carried out in phases to ensure that campus operations—including the local service center and the kitchen—remained fully operational during construction.
