Ghent City Council
Restoration, renovation, and new construction at Ghent City Council (renovation of the administrative center, restoration of the old library, construction of a new entrance hall and connecting passageway)
De Klerck Engineering provided the structural engineering and building services design, and EPB reporting for the large-scale transformation of the Ghent City Council. This challenging project combines the renovation and restoration of the Administrative Center and the historic old library with the construction of a new connecting agora and footbridge.
To enable new openings and circulation routes, we carried out targeted structural interventions within the existing concrete structure while preserving as much of the existing material as possible. We also designed an extremely energy-efficient climate control system featuring quiet climate ceilings and CO₂-controlled ventilation.
The complex is connected to Ghent’s district heating network and uses environmentally friendly chillers with a low global warming potential (GWP). Thanks to this integrated approach, we created a modern, energy-efficient, and comfortable administrative center that preserves the building’s heritage value.
