Meise Botanical Garden - Sustainable Heat Production
Design and site supervision of building services (HVAC and electrical) for sustainable heat production with heat pumps
For the Meise Botanical Garden Agency, a new, sustainable heat generation system is replacing the estate’s outdated fuel oil system. The existing boilers and the central heating system will be completely dismantled and replaced by two 500-kW heat pumps, which together will provide the primary heating. A combined heat and power (CHP) system will be installed, subject to certain conditions, as a supplementary, high-efficiency source of heat and electricity.
The electrical infrastructure is also undergoing extensive modifications, including a new grid disconnection panel for the CHP system, modifications to the existing high- and low-voltage grids, and new cabling. The system will be integrated with the building management system (BMS) to ensure optimal control and monitoring. Before the system is put into service, inspections of the high-voltage, low-voltage, CHP, and gas systems will be conducted.
De Klerck Engineering is responsible for the design and full on-site supervision of the technical systems (HVAC and electrical). Replacing fossil fuel-fired oil with electrically powered heat pumps significantly reduces dependence on fossil fuels, in line with the Botanical Garden’s sustainability goals. Construction began on July 6, 2026, and completion is scheduled for December 12, 2026.
