GO! HIMO Willebroek Elementary School
For the GO! HIMO Elementary School in Willebroek, De Klerck Engineering provided the complete multidisciplinary structural engineering and building services design, as well as EPB reporting within a Design & Build framework. The new building is structured around a central atrium that all innovative open-plan classrooms and the gym open onto.
Thanks to a fully virtual model, a structural shell with extensive prefabrication was selected, consisting of prefabricated concrete interior cavity walls and prestressed hollow-core slabs with in-situ concrete fill. From a technical standpoint, a central heating system was selected, featuring two high-efficiency condensing boilers connected to low-temperature underfloor heating with zone-controlled room thermostats.
A central Type D ventilation system provides fresh air, with CO₂ control and heat recovery, equipped with a bypass for nighttime cooling in the summer. The electrical system features LED lighting with daylight control and occupancy sensors, as well as self-testing emergency lighting. Extensive rainwater harvesting further supports the building's sustainability.
