Freinet School De Pientere Piste, Deurne
De Klerck Engineering, as part of a construction team, was responsible for the design of all technical systems for the new Freinet School De Pientere Piste in Deurne, based on the client’s performance specifications, and also closely monitored the installation of the technical systems. Heating is provided by two redundant air-to-water heat pumps, with a heat distribution system tailored to the function of each room: underfloor heating in the communal areas and multipurpose hall, and panel radiators in restrooms and administrative areas.
To ensure summer comfort, the design focused on a compact building volume, limited glazing, thoughtful orientation and shading, supplemented by exterior sunshades and free cooling via the ventilation system, making active cooling unnecessary except in the server room. The balanced Type D ventilation system with a heat exchanger is demand-controlled based on CO₂ and humidity levels, and rainwater is collected for toilet flushing.
This resulted in an E-level of 40, well below the BEN standard.
