The project

De Klerck Engineering is responsible for the engineering design of a new psychiatric care facility for the CURAM Campus Heilig Hart in Ypres. The project includes a secure HIC ward and an open ward for addiction treatment, with 57 beds and a floor area of over 5,500 m² within a specialized care setting.

The design involved an extensive analysis to determine the most suitable energy solution for the building. An air-to-water heat pump emerged as the best option for heating and cooling, supported by a carefully sized buffer tank and tailored to the heating requirements of the entire building. Ventilation was also calculated for each room and each air-handling unit in accordance with EPB requirements.

In addition, De Klerck Engineering conducted dynamic comfort simulations for patient rooms, conference rooms, living areas, and circulation zones. Thanks to vertical sunscreens and cooling through the ventilation system, the risk of overheating remains well below the VIPA standard. The project documentation also includes power and cable calculations, electrical distribution panels, power cables, cable trays, and a lighting study in accordance with applicable standards.
